Dentures

You don't have to live with missing teeth.
For hundreds of years, men and women have used dentures in some form to replace their missing teeth. Dental technology continues to advance in leaps and bounds, with today's modern restorations lighter, more stable, more functional, and more natural-looking than ever before. Don't let tooth loss hold you back. Visit Dentist of Lubbock to learn more about our state-of-the-art tooth restoration solutions.

What Are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are removable alternatives to dental bridges designed to replace one or several natural teeth. They consist of natural-looking replacement teeth attached to supporting frameworks. Partials typically connect to existing teeth on either side of the gap using metal clasps or precision attachments. At Dentist of Lubbock, we offer traditional metal-based partials as well as flexible metal-free restorations for enhanced aesthetics.

What Are Complete Dentures?

Complete dentures are restorations designed to replace an entire arch of upper or lower teeth. Similar to removable partial dentures, they feature prosthetic teeth that closely resemble your natural teeth set in gum-colored bases. At Dentist of Lubbock, we offer two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional.

Immediate Dentures: At times, we must extract any remaining teeth before placing your full dentures. Immediate restorations are created ahead of time and positioned in your mouth right after tooth extraction, so you won't have to go without teeth for a single day. During the healing process, your gums and bone will change in shape, so your dentures will need adjustments and relining to continue providing a comfortable fit and optimal function.

Conventional Dentures: We'll create your tooth replacements from impressions of your mouth after removing any remaining teeth and the area has healed. That helps work in the subtle details to fit your mouth and match your bite just right. The conventional dentures process takes six weeks to three months to complete after tooth extraction, but the superior fit, comfort, and function are well worth the wait.

What Are the Benefits of Dentures and Partials?

Dentures and partials offer an effective and affordable solution to replace missing teeth. Your new restorations will support your facial features, improve your speech, allow you to enjoy many more of your favorite foods, and have you smiling with confidence once again.

If you're missing one or a few of your teeth, wearing a partial denture will prevent the neighboring teeth from moving toward the gap, potentially leading to crooked teeth and problems with your bite. Maintaining a complete set of teeth will enhance your oral health and improve your quality of life.

Will You Require Denture Adhesives?

Denture adhesives are often not needed for dentures. However, some patients opt to use them for an added sense of stability. If your restorations are loose or uncomfortable, contact us for an appointment. We may reline your dentures and will make any adjustments necessary.

How Should You Care for Your Dentures?

Whether you wear partial or complete dentures, you must maintain good oral hygiene. Make sure to brush your teeth, gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth to remove plaque and stimulate circulation in your tissues. You should also brush your dentures carefully using a soft-bristled brush and denture cleanser daily to remove plaque and food particles and to prevent staining.

If your dentures are damaged or you have uncomfortable spots, don't attempt to make any repairs yourself. Contact our office, and we'll make any adjustments needed to ensure your restorations continue functioning the way they should. Caring for your dentures will allow them to continue enhancing your smile for years to come.
